untitled and rocks

i just returned from my usual morning visit to the ocean. each day i go i expect it will become more of a reality that i can recognize. But as i walk down the tree covered path to the shore i feel as if i have been transported to a world that i only read about in books. similar to that of bridge to terabithia,  i feel as if i have swung the rope into a magical land that is completely my own.  i sit for hours pretending the different stories in my mind ( and when i say pretend i mean i think about them and actually believe them to be the truer form of what i am experiencing). I pretend that the rocks are magic. i pretend the land visible across the sea is full of magic, danger and adventure. i pretend that in it all i am the hero or villain and the world is completely for me to conquer or destroy.
sometimes i pretend that the millions of rocks have suddenly become the currency of the world and that i am among the first to stumble upon the great treasure.

yesterday i met a older man who also shares my passion for rocks, but with quite different theories of their origins. he was telling me that the sun has consciousness as do all the other planets and that the sun, one day in a rage, expelled all the rocks we see on the beach from its core down to the earth.
i pretend to believe him.

fact, fiction, truth, or fallacy, have all become irrelevant to me in that space. each story is as valuable, and each has its certain day where i credit it as the explanation of finding myself in such an extraordinary space.

tomorrow is a mystery and as such, one i look desperately forward to.

'And blessedness goes where the wind goes,
And when its gone we are dead;
I see the blessedest soul in the world
And he nods a drunken head.

canada. politics. and idiots... (a risqué blog maybe)

wow i am talking the politic... not really though... just trying to educate those who need it

(emails sent out by me)

email # 1

i appreciate the emails... just thought i would clear up a few things (not that i am taking a political opinion, i am just a little frustrated with mass emails that have no bearing, understanding, or public representation of canadian politics). what is happening right now in canada is conservative voters massing in anger because they think their votes are losing power (also a feeling of loss in general seeing as they had thought that they won). what they dont realize is that they are (in the fine respect of democracy) a minority within the parties and their representitives in our government. when you vote someone into to power in a democracy, its a system: a body of government which rules. and thank goodness for that. it is not a one party system. canadian voters have had their say. and now the people who they voted in to represent them are standing up against a government who they feel is no longer doing that job. it is democracy at its finest (no matter which team you cheer for).

email #2

political affiliations are a tricky sport to discuss... so i do not take a specific opinion but only comment on our political system in canada... it is unfortunate but not surprising that in such a large country the political spectrums would vary so drastically and divide the people... but this is our system. and maybe our electoral system is what should truly be questioned. but democracy as all canadians know it is still functioning 100% whether people love it or hate it.

Canada has been in a difficult position for the past 10 years. it is not a blame game but the aging of a somewhat "teenage" nation. everyone deserves their culture ... but what we have done throughout history was make it impossible to have a "canadian person"... there is no preservation to hold on to or remember... only communities and those are numerous. it is what makes our country great... but it is what also makes our country so different. that difference, divided by so much space, is bound to create difficulties within politics and individual and national identity.

quebec is a crucial part of our country ( and a province that has a pretty good bearing on arts, culture and the environment (something i think the rest of canada could really take note of)). separatists? maybe... i do find it frustrating that they are given way more seats , more power and more say than us in the west. but it is not with quebec where we find the problem. it is our system of elections, seats and representation.

thus, mutiny so to say is actually the majority of collected votes and in those, the elected representatives expressing what they were expressing when they were voted into power by us, the people. we cant be angry at the people of our country for following the system which we set up. we must remember that the conservatives did not win a majority government and then in that , tried to push forward a sneaky and dirty bill to give them the advantage of power without vote ( to be a little more clear, they set limits in their advantage for the types of party funding which is acceptable... they are writing their own rules for all the parties... sounds a little totalitarian to me... heh heh i am kidding (only a little though). ). now we have coalition... it sounds aggressive, and i think that is what people are distracted by. but really it just means the voters representatives must now work together to govern a country for the people. doesn't sound too bad to me. they haven't written history , and we cant assume a future... all we can do is trust in our votes and those of our fellow country men and women.

celebrity sightings and cameras

for some strange reason the first thing i want to do when i am on my web cam with someone is show them some thing around me. today all my cameras are on my desk. so i will show them to you.

maybe a bit of a boring post. but in my defense i am procrastinating.
o.k. , i better tell you something interesting...

i am about 95% sure i saw meryl streep downtown last week. it was amazing (even if it wasn't her). i will just assume it was though.

yup.

lets get a few things straight

i need people to follow my blog so i can feel validated.

... that said, i just discovered that all the work i had scheduled for the next 10 days is in fact actually due in the next three. i am an idiot (soon to be a very tired idiot).

... i showed a series of three pictures in class today. it was the crit class. most of the art students looked quietly at my work in a very awkward way.  my mistake had been not taking pictures of sea shells, teddy bears and puppies, but instead a triptych following the narrative of underwear (as well as the mystery of the body that should be in them). here it is on video:

i would guess that most people were distracted by the  two questions they were asking themselves in their heads... so to answer (if you are asking the same ones), question one: never-mind who it is (not important); question two: yes.

settled.

up to speed

Its been over two years since my last entry. As far as capturing the moments of my life through the wonderful means of a blog goes, i have been sub par.

two years summed up in point form (so we can get on to the new and exciting stuff)
- Aug 2006.... hmm that is awhile back... i believe i was working quite hard for social services. i worked there until October. I then hopped a plane to Australia and S.E. Asia... for the second time.
-Jan 2007 .... Moved to Victoria B.C. for the last semester of my philosophy and history degree
-June 2007... Back in edmonton for some reason.
- July 2007.... i bought a brand new Nissan. 3 days later i was rear-ended. heh heh
- Aug 2007.... Drove across Canada twice! Once wasnt enough... after being home for 5 days i set out to do it again.
- Nov 2007- April 2008.... Quite a boring time actually. A lot of stuff going on in my head.
- April 2008.... My first trip to europe. Spent two and a half months there... U.K. Holland, Germany , Italy , Spain.  This trip was everything that could be hoped for in a trip to europe. I traveled for the first 2 months alone (of course there are always the amazing people found along the way that i traveled with). Then the last 2 weeks my sister met me in rome... perfect.
- June 2008.... In edmonton , spent a lot of time with the family.
- August 2008- present..... moved back to Victoria for art school.

there you have it... now we can deal with the times at hand... ummm...

i am sitting here , with no good reason for still being awake.... well actually there is a very good reason.  i am awake because i slept until 2 pm... only because that is, i stayed awake until 5 30 am last night playing video games. I cant seem to win at the effing game. my friend half asleep with only one eye open, still pummeled me. its disheartening.

so yes, i sit here, drinking egg nog,  with joni mitchell on loop and wondering how the hell there are only 10 days left to this semester.

vampire clause

I am sitting at work. It is four in the morning. I find myself pretending in my mind and truly believing that I could one day become a vampire. It would be foolish to deny that you the reader of this blog, have not thought the same, or wished for a similar situation. And if you haven’t, forgive my assumption that you have, and understand that now I have placed such an idea in your head, you will begin to consider. Not , of course that I have such power to do so, to change you I mean. I am still just pretending as well. Though, I must say, there are many conditions to my vampire-ism that would precede any decision or choice in the matter to become one. The following would be my “Clause” if you will. That is assuming I would have allowed time and dialogue to propose my clause to what would be a vampire impatient for my blood.

Ryan: Aside from common curiosity when such instances of expectant pain arise and the question it brings “Does it hurt?”, I would like to ask if I could possibly work out a few details prior to my anticipated and sure reformation?
Vampire: Such as?
Ryan: I do have a list . May I produce it?
( I will shuffle some papers with the notion to look as if I am well thought out , then produce a single paper) the list reads:
1. it would not be necessary for me to include myself in vampire activities, namely, killing and drinking any unlucky victims blood. I would not be looked down upon, or be considered less of a vampire for choosing such things.
2. I would not be unfortunately directed downwards after an untimely or decided departure from this world and life. That heaven could still and hopefully would, open its gates to me and say “ hats off dehaan, good job”.
3. I would not have to wear a full body leather suit all the time ( though I probably still would).
Ryan: That is it.
Vampire: That is it?
Ryan: Yes, that is what I just said, that is it.
Vampire: Okay. Though I am afraid I have no control over your second condition. But good or evil is ultimately up to you- to create, to live by, or to ignore. But mainly to create. I have no need for such things.
He then pauses and looks at me, I nod.
Vampire: Yes, it really hurts , but only for a second. Time to swim….

and then I will be a vampire.

the begining

it seemed like a good idea to begin the chronical of what has thus far been a dandy time being. this is the first day of what i hope will be many where i shall attempt , with all effort and purpose, a blog that will prove to be entertaining and captuating.

although i am afraid that i have already failed myself in the above ambitions , as i sit here trying to remember even the slightest of such.

i suppose i have to begin. i have finished my studies in philosphy and am just happy floating in the non existent happenings of this wonderful thing i call the post modern abstract. but that is for another time. in that floating i am going to find my way to australia once again, this october. october 11 to be precise. until then i am working for social services at a treatment home for aggressive youth. the excitement/fear of death is never lacking. it does however give me ample time to join what i have been resisting for some time ( the blog ) . it has me now, and one more obsessive compulsive routine activity shall be added to my list ( or failed commitment). either way it is not good.

last one in the water it is....
